Is a Lower Body Lift or Liposuction the Right Choice for You?

    Last updated 4 months ago

If you have stubborn pockets of fat and excess skin in your lower body, both liposuction and lower body lifts have the potential to help. Which one is the best choice for you depends on your unique body type and your goals for your procedure. At Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre, we perform both of these surgeries and can help you pick the best one for you. Here is what you need to know about your cosmetic surgery options:

    Liposuction
Liposuction is ideal for eliminating areas of fat that you haven’t been able to erase through diet and exercise. During the procedure, these stubborn fat cells are removed, giving you a trimmer, more toned physique.

Liposuction can’t take the place of diet and exercise and isn’t recommended for patients who haven’t yet reached a stable, healthy weight. Weight fluctuation after liposuction can diminish the results and cause uneven weight distribution to areas where fat cells remain.

If you have reached a healthy weight and want to get rid of those last inches that stubbornly refuse to budge, liposuction could be a good fit.

    Lower Body Lift
Cosmetic surgeons use lower body lifts to re-sculpt patients’ abdomens, thighs, and buttocks. The procedure is slightly different for each patient, as it is tailored to their specific needs. Lower body lifts can include a tummy tuck, buttock lift, and other treatments designed to give a sleeker appearance to the lower half of the body.

Some excess fat is removed during lower body lifts with mini-liposuction procedures, but the main focus of this surgery is to remove excess skin. If you have excess skin and fat, your cosmetic surgeon may recommend that you have liposuction first, followed by a lift a few months later to remove sagging skin.

What Are Spider Veins and How Are They Treated?

    Last updated 4 months ago

Many people, particularly women, suffer from spider veins along their legs. These unsightly veins, though not a significant health risk, can cause you to feel self-conscious and always cover up your legs. Learn more about how these veins form and how they can be treated at the Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre by reading below.

    • What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins occur as the result of pressure in the legs. Weight gain, long periods of time spent standing, and pregnancy can all result in the formation of spider veins. Over time, the pressure exerted on your legs weakens the valves in the veins that circulate blood through your legs. When this happens, blood pools in the veins near the surface of your legs, creating the red, blue, or purple veins called spider veins.

    • How Are Spider Veins Treated?

One of the most common and effective cosmetic treatments for spider veins is sclerotherapy. During sclerotherapy treatment, a salt solution is injected into the spider veins of your calves, thighs, or ankles. This solution, over time, causes the affected veins to swell as the blood inside of them clots. This in turn effectively destroys the vein, creating scar tissue that fades from view from beneath the skin of your legs. The procedure is minimally invasive, requiring only injections into the spider veins of your legs—approximately one injection for every inch of visible spider vein. The side effects of this cosmetic procedure are generally minor and may include bruising or leg cramps near the injection sites, which should only last a day or two after your treatment. Further recovery is aided by support hose worn after administration of injections.

Get ready to show off your legs again after spider vein treatment at the Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre of Houston. Our experienced staff has been performing sclerotherapy injections for years with excellent results for many of our patients.
