    Reasons to Consider Otoplasty

    Last updated 10 months ago

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that reshapes the ears. Patients mainly choose ear surgery because of embarrassment or dissatisfaction with the appearance of the ears. Ears with large lobes, those that appear to “stick out” from the head to a large degree, and asymmetric ears can all be corrected surgically. Aging ears that appear to droop can be corrected to enhance the results of a facelift. Ears that have suffered an injury can also be reconstructed by a cosmetic surgeon to restore a healthy appearance. Otoplasty offers an ideal solution to all these conditions, allowing you and your cosmetic surgeon to determine the size and shape of ear that best suits your face.

"Most patients who undergo otoplasty are children, particularly girls", says Dr. Joseph Perlman, board certified plastic surgeon in the Houston area. " Usually, their parents bring them in before school age or when the girls are 11 or 12 and are tired of wearing their hair down to cover their ears."

Find out if otoplasty is right for you by calling Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre of Houston at (281) 394-4167. Dr. Perlman will be happy to discuss your needs and help you discover the best cosmetic procedure for your goals. How to Care for Your Skin After a Chemical Peel

    Last updated 10 months ago

Chemical peels offer noninvasive facial rejuvenation for smooth, glowing skin. Depending upon the depth and type of your chemical peel, your skin will need time and care to recover. Following your cosmetic surgeon’s instructions will ensure you get the best result possible from your chemical peel.

    Following a Mild Chemical Peel

Mild chemical peels require little to no recovery downtime. You may experience stinging, redness, and crusting immediately after your procedure, but these effects should disappear within a few hours. You can use makeup to cover redness if necessary. Always wear sunscreen when going outdoors to protect and maintain your skin.

    Following a Medium Chemical Peel

Medium chemical peels can cause redness that lasts for a few weeks following your peel. Ask your cosmetic surgeon if and when you can use cosmetics. You may experience inflammation and peeling for up to one week following your procedure, so moisturize regularly to promote the health of your new skin. Avoid exposure to the sun for a few months, and always wear sunscreen when you do go outdoors to prevent hyperpigmentation.

    Following a Deep Chemical Peel

Deep chemical peels yield the highest level of facial rejuvenation. You may experience significant swelling, redness, and peeling for up to two weeks afterwards. Plan on resting for this amount of time before returning to work and normal activities. Your cosmetic surgeon may give you ointments to apply to sensitive areas or cysts that may form. You may be asked to shower several times a day to facilitate healing. Because deep chemical peels lighten the skin and affect its ability to produce pigment, you will need to avoid sunlight as much as possible.

"We are getting a great deal of interest in the VI Peel", says Dr. Joseph Perlman, a board certified plastic surgeon. "This is a combination of chemical agents that deliver both superficial and deep peel treatment in a single, safe solution".

Signs that You Are a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery

    Last updated 10 months ago

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can rejuvenate your face and create a more youthful look. If you want to address wrinkles, sagging skin, or puffiness around your eyes, eyelid surgery may be the right choice for you. Your cosmetic surgeon will be happy to examine your goals and make a personalized recommendation to help you achieve the refreshed look you desire.

    Tired Eyes

Eyelid surgery can eliminate the appearance of “tired eyes” that many adults experience as they age. Puffiness around the upper or lower eyes, dark circles beneath the eyes, and bags under the lower eyelids can all be corrected with eyelid surgery. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess skin while repositioning fat beneath the skin to fill in bags and decrease puffiness for a rejuvenated look.

    Excess or Sagging Skin

Loose or sagging skin around the eyes is also easily corrected with eyelid surgery. If you have drooping skin on your upper eyelids that affects your vision, your cosmetic surgeon will remove this skin and reshape the lids while raising the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance around the eyes. In addition, Dr. Joseph Perlman of the Advanced Plastic Surgery Center, says that with age the lower eyelid loses its support and starts to sag. He has used various techniques over the last 30 years to  correct the problem of ectropion. Removal of skin as well as laser treatments are beneficial to correct wrinkling or creasing around and beneath your eyes may also be significantly improved during surgery, taking years off your face.  The use of dermal fillers also augments the eyelid procedures

    Additional Considerations

Before considering eyelid surgery, you should make sure you’re in good health. Discuss any eye conditions you have or medications you are taking with your cosmetic surgeon before surgery. It’s also important to have a realistic expectation of the outcome of your procedure. You and your surgeon will discuss your results and how cosmetic surgery can help you achieve the look you want.

    Oriental Eyelids

Dr. Perlman also has a special interest in treating patients from Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian descent who either want to remove the excess skin of their upper eyelids or "westernize" their appearance. Some of these patients had a single fold eyelid and others have a double fold eyelid. Dr. Perlman uses different techniques depending on the patient's anatomy and their goals.

Exploring the Safety of Memory Gel Breast Implants

    Last updated 10 months ago

Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. When choosing the right breast implants for your needs, there are many factors to consider.

Silicone breast implants have been studied extensively, and have been approved by the FDA since 2006. Today, the silicone implants available for breast augmentation are made from an advanced cohesive gel. Testing has shown that today’s silicone gel implants are safer than saline implants in many ways. You can learn more about the safety and cosmetic benefits of these breast implants by watching this video.

Are You a Candidate for an Arm Lift?

    Last updated 10 months ago

Arm lift procedures address excess fat and skin on the upper arms. During an arm lift, your plastic surgeon removes this excess tissue to tighten and sculpt the arms for a more toned appearance. Many who lose a significant amount of weight are left with loose, sagging skin on the arms. Although diet and exercise can reduce the amount of fat on the arms and improve muscle tone, it cannot tighten the skin—this can only be done surgically. Other patients who choose arm lifts naturally suffer from loose-skinned or poorly-defined upper arms that cause embarrassment, especially with age. Over time, lowered elasticity of the skin can exacerbate existing laxity in the upper arm area, requiring surgical intervention to achieve the desired results. Dr. Joseph Perlman, a board certified plastic surgeon with 30 years experience, has treated many patients who have lost significant weight from gastric bypass and other weight reduction procedures.

Dr. Perlman of Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre has the answers to your questions about arm lifts and other body procedures, including breast lifts and liposuction.
